Principal's Update

Dear Spoede Families,

It's here!!!!!  Our annual Halloween parade and parties are some of the most memorable events at Spoede.  As always, our tradition is that on Halloween teachers dress me, and my costume sets the theme for the entire faculty.  I have no idea what it is until that day!!!  I also just wanted send along a few reminders for the big day.

We ask that students DO NOT WEAR masks, as this can be overly scary for our younger students.  The parade begins 2:00 pm, so parents will be allow to go to classrooms at 1:45 if they need to assist with costumes.  Parties then go from 2:15-3:15 pm.  There will be an announcement at 3:15 asking everyone to exit the building so that students can pack up, and we can prepare for carpool.

Lastly, we also ask that students not bring candy to school.  A small piece for dessert at lunch could be okay; however, we discourage it for snack.

Hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

Principal's Update

Dear Spoede Families,

It is so hard to believe September is more than half over.  I just wanted to send a few reminders.  If you are new to Spoede and received a yard sign this year, please be sure to return it to the office.  We use these signs each year to welcome new families.

In the afternoons children are dismissed via carpool, walking home or on a bus.  Anyone pulling on the lot at Spoede should be using the carpool system.  Also, please remember not to get out of your car during carpool or use a cell phone.

If you need to change the way your child is to go home on a given day, you must call the office before 3:00 p.m.  Due to the level of activity in the office after this time, we will not be able to process these changes.  Unless it is a change in a child's dismissal procedure, we cannot call classrooms with messages for students.  We try to call into classrooms as seldom as possible to minimize disruptions to instruction.

Lastly, we at Spoede truly appreciate the One Check donations that our families make!!  This money has been used each year to provide a top notch education for our students.

Take care,

Principal's Update

Dear Spoede Families,

Don't forget that this evening is our Open House.  This is an adult only event.  K-2 families will talk with the teacher from 5:30-6:25.  At 6:25 K-4 families and all staff will report to the gym for a few announcements and introductions.  At about 6:55, K-2 families will leave and 3-4 families will meet with the teacher.

Please remember that parking in the front is in designated parking spaces and Lanes 2 and 3 only.  There is more parking in the back.  Below is the link to the Spoede Parent Handbook, which discusses curriculum and other activities and procedures that may be unique to Spoede.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight!

Principal's Update

Dear Spoede Families:

First and foremost, thank you so much for such a wonderful first week of school.  Your help and cooperation made the opening of school go so smoothly!!  Now that we are all back in the swing, and our new students have developed a routine, there are some things that I wanted to ask your help with.  Please remember that parking in the front is ALWAYS only in lanes 2 and 3.  This applies even during BASK pick up and drop off.  In the morning all students should enter the school through the front door if they arrive in a car.  Parents must utilize the carpool line or bus every day to send students into school.  For safety reasons, parents dropping off or picking up students should NEVER get out of the car in the a.m. or p.m. for any reason, and we ask that cell phones are NOT used in the carpool line.  For the first couple of weeks, we have teacher assistants and fourth grade students helping Kindergartners to get to their classrooms.   If another family member/person picks your child up in p.m. carpool, they must have your name sign in the window in order for us to release your child.

During the hours between 8:35-4, visitors should only enter the building through the main front entrance and sign in at the office.  This is to ensure that we have an accurate record of who is in the building should there be an emergency, in order to make sure everyone has gotten out of the building safely.

Also please review, our school expectations that you received in your packet for before and after school activities with your child.  Sometimes children may not realize that even though school is not in session, the expectations remain the same.  We are counting on your support to teach and enforce these expectations with your child.  If while attending a school event you should come across a child who is lost from their parent (s), please take that child to the office.

I am so excited to continue to get to know all of you and the students, and what makes each of them so special!!!!

First Day of School Update

Dear Spoede Families,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!  Your cooperation this morning allowed all at Spoede to have a smooth transition back to school!!  It has been a great day here!  I just finished visiting classrooms and am getting ready for recesses and lunches.  It is so wonderful to have our turtles back home!!

Procedures for tomorrow for drop off and pick up of students will be the same as today.  However, tomorrow ALL students should enter the building on their own.  We will have extra adults and 4th graders to help new and younger students find classrooms if needed.

As always if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office.

Happy first day of school!!!
